Rural Outreach Projects

BCRIC strives to continue Dr. Betty Cowan's passion in rural outreach projects. She dedicated much of her time towards helping and reaching out to the needs of rural women and children.

One of our main focus has been to find funds towards awareness/education and cancer screening programs in the rural villages. We work closely with the Medical Superintendent and the Rural Health Outreach Program office.

Invited Lectures/Seminars/Grandrounds

We organize several special lecture/seminar/grandround topics according to the needs expressed by CMCH staff. At times, we organize topics to introduce the latest technologies in the current market. Invited speakers are from government/private institutes, corporate organizations, non-governmental organizations (non-profit) etc. This platform also creates opportunities for interaction between CMCH and experts from other institutes and organizations.

Research Project Volunteers

We have been very fortunate to attract research project volunteers each year. They come from different disciplines wanting to gain experience at BCRIC.

At the centre we inculcate discussions and independent thinking and creativity. Below is a list of students who have spent time at our centre:

2008:

Mr. Nadish Goyal (starting October 7, 2008 for 6 weeks) - currently at University of Pennsylvania, USA.

2009:

Ms. Anshula Chaudhry (May 11 - July 15, 2009)

Anshula has experience in working with Visual Basic. We set her on a task to create electronic cancer registry forms. She is working also with Mr. Satish Nair of the Dept of Medical Informatics, CMCH. This project has gone beyond creating just a basic registry by incorporating space for actual results from various test, images, analyses and final opinions from various medical doctors carrying out the tests.

Training Programs / Demonstrations

Once our labs are ready and operational, we will be conducting regular training programs in the areas of molecular cancer and stem cell research techniques. We will be acquiring some state-of-the art equipments in phases.
